Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc. to host 48th Annual Convention

(Sparks, Nev.) — Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc. will host its 48th Annual Convention, Nov. 4-7, 2013, at Circus Circus Hotel and Casino.

This year’s theme focuses on sustaining and improving the 27 tribal communities throughout the state of Nevada. There will be plenty of workshops on improving tribal programs, program development, fiscal management, tribal child care, head start, and special sessions by the Children’s Justice Act Task Force on Indian Child Welfare, as well as, a track on Tribal Law Enforcement by ITCN’s Statewide Native American Coalition.

Opening ceremonies will begin, Tues., Nov. 5, 2013, with a special performance by local Native American drum groups and dancers, who will display cultural styles specific to surrounding Nevada tribal communities.

A special Recognition Ceremony will take place later that afternoon. Gerald Temoke, President of ITCN’s Executive Board, will honor various ITCN programs and staff as an acknowledgement of the hard work, dedication and services provided to the tribal communities throughout the state.

Native American Music “Best Blues” Award winners and Ultimate Blues-Father-and-Son-Duo, Twice As Good (Paul and Rich Steward), will be performing high energy Blues, Soul, and Rock & Roll music, with screaming guitar and soulful vocals backed by the 2XG band.

The convention will conclude with a Wednesday evening banquet, with a special guest keynote speaker, to be determined.

The Statewide Native American Coalition will also honor the Chad Williams Award recipient, as well as, sponsors and organizations that have assisted ITCN with contributions and support.

The night will end with a “Mad Hatter” themed ball, with special performances by the Trey Stone Band & Soul Experience, a highly popular R & B, Funk and Soul band who has toured with legendary group Tower of Power. They have also shared the stage with Prince, George Michael, Run DMC and many more.

The dance is $5 at the door, and participants are urged to arrive with their craziest, weirdest, silliest, or most unique hats. Cash prizes will be given to the top 3.
