Children’s Book Drive

Encouraging Literacy in Nevada’s Tribal Communities

(Las Vegas, Nev.) — Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc., Child Care Development Fund program will be collecting children’s books for the 1st Annual Children’s Book drive in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Children’s Book Drive will begin on April 1, and continue for the entire month. The book drive will run in conjunction to the 1st Annual Nevada Tribal Child Care Awareness Day at Craig Ranch Regional Park in Las Vegas, Sat. April 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman of Las Vegas will proclaim April 25 as Nevada Tribal Child Care Awareness Day. The event is open to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring new or gently used children’s books to the event, or the drop off location. The books will be given back to the tribal communities.

Nevada Tribal Child Care Awareness Day and the Children’s Book Drive are planned to bring awareness to Tribal Child Care issues in the state, and to draw attention to children’s literacy.

“Some of the tribal child care centers and after school programs we work with, currently lack some of the basic supplies needed to provide quality child care,” said Amanda Bobb, Tribal Centers Caseworker for ITCN CCDF. “Their wish lists are long, but many of them are just seeking enough age appropriate books for the children in their care. The books they have now are old and falling apart. The book drive is a great way to get new books to them, without the high cost,” she said.

Books can be dropped off the day of the event and during the entire month of April. ITCN CCDF Las Vegas office will have drop off bins, located at 2920 S. Rainbow Blvd. Suite 160.
